Today is my grandfathers 77th birthday! Growing up, my grandpa was the only father figure in my life. I wasn’t close to my birth father. He wasn’t a good man. My grandpa however, is the best man I have ever known. I have too many great memories with him to narrow it down to my favorite one but I think today I will try. My grandpa taught me how to be a strong, independent woman who loves God with all her heart. I grew up watching him work hard to support his family and anyone else who ever needed any help. I watched him love his wife with his whole heart and serve God with everything he had. My mom, being a single mother, needed help watching me after school when I was younger. After my grandpa had a couple strokes and he retired my grandma got a job a local Laundry Matt. During this time, I would spend most of my afternoons with my grandpa. We would get a snack and watch one episode of Bonanza while I finished my homework. After that he would let me watch Full House and Family matters before we took dinner to my grandma at work. These are some of my favorite memories with my grandpa. Being able to spend quality time with him and learn about his past was amazing. I am lucky that I was and still am able to get to know him as often as I want. He is my hero and I can’t thank him enough for everything he has taught me in my short life. So, happy birthday grandpa! Thank you for everything!
